Preparing Your Dog for Their Photoshoot

You’ve booked your portrait session for you and your dog. Amazing! The excitement is building, but then you think, what do I need to do next?

Here are my top tips for preparing your dog for their photoshoot.

Things to Do in the Weeks & Days Before:

Familiarity

If possible, visit the photoshoot location with your dog beforehand to help them feel more comfortable and relaxed on the day. Familiar surroundings can help reduce any anxiety or nervousness.

Grooming:

Give your dog a bath and brush before the photoshoot to ensure their coat is clean and shiny. Trim any overgrown fur around their eyes and paws for a polished look.

Practice:

While well-practised commands can enhance your dog's photoshoot experience, it is not necessary.

The primary objective of a photoshoot is to capture the essence and personality of your furry friend, which can be achieved even if your dog isn’t perfectly trained.

That said, incorporating basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come” can add an element of control and flexibility, enabling you to get a variety of shots and poses that might be otherwise difficult to achieve.

If your dog is not fully trained, don’t worry!

Things to Do on the Day of Your Session

Treats and Toys:

Please bring your dog's favourite treats and toys to help keep them engaged and focused during the photoshoot. Rewarding them with treats for good behaviour can make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Exercise:

Before the photoshoot, take your dog for a nice walk or play session to help them burn off excess energy. A tired pup is likelier to sit still and cooperate during the session.

Patience and Positivity:

Remember to stay patient and positive throughout the photoshoot. Dogs can pick up on your energy, so try to stay calm and encouraging to help them feel at ease in front of the camera.

By following these tips, you can help ensure your dog is well-prepared and ready to capture some amazing memories during their photoshoot. Have fun and enjoy the experience together!

You and your furry friend are in for a fantastic photoshoot experience! With a bit of preparation, your dog will pose like a pro in no time.

Get ready to capture some priceless memories together - it will be a tail-wagging good time!
